Linux & Open-Source

Using Linux and other [freely available] open source software such as OpenOffice, to replace costly Microsoft Windows® and Office not only will you save money on the original purchase, but also on maintaining and securing your systems. Free Open-Source solutions don't require licenses, which means you don't have to waste your time and money managing them under the threat of being audited by Microsoft.

Most operating systems in their default configuration have sacrificed some level of security for ease-of-use. Microsoft security options are the only options you have to secure a Windows® based system, what they give you is what you have to work with - take it or leave it. But, with Linux the system is built on an open model where ALL of the operating system is modifiable. Because of this, Linux is far more configurable and able to be made to be more secure. Higher security not only keeps outsiders from intruding into your systems but keeps insiders from changing settings or making mistakes that result in costly service calls for you.

Using a linux XFCE server you can have a setup where 1 system does all the work, and all your workstations are simply remote screens and keyboards, or "thin clients". Having everything on a single server setup like this means that no matter which connected workstation you sit at you'll have the same applications and configuration at each one. Not only that, but you'll also one have one single machine that will ever need software maintenance, the server itself. Every change made at the server will effect all connected workstations equally. So all the money and time you used to spend updating each PC on a single basis will be a thing of the past, as only the server itself will need any updates done.

Like any tool; one operating system is not the perfect answer for every situation, but if you give us a call we can help you figure out where Linux and other open source solutions can fit into your operations to help you save time and money.
